Project Overview
Zebraphant is a hand-drawn illustration created for the “Speak to the Human 2023: Change and Disruption” event by Acteon Communication. The postcard design needed to visually communicate the idea of disruption while remaining bold, professional, and concept-driven.The artwork features a zebra-striped elephant paired with the headline, “Don’t forget your disruptive thinking.” The concept focuses on challenging expectations by transforming something familiar into something unexpected, directly reflecting the event’s theme of change.
Final result
The final outcome is a monochrome, hand-rendered illustration titled Zebraphant. The piece was initially drawn by hand, then scanned and refined in Photoshop to enhance contrast, clean the composition, and prepare it for print. This process allowed me to preserve the authenticity and expressive quality of the original drawing while ensuring a polished, professional finish suitable for an event postcard.
I chose this approach intentionally. The elephant is a strong, recognisable symbol, often associated with memory and presence. By merging it with zebra stripes, I visually disrupted its identity - creating something both familiar and unexpected. This contrast reinforces the message of innovative and disruptive thinking.
The hand-drawn technique adds a human, tactile quality that aligns closely with the “Speak to the Human” message. In contrast to purely digital design, the organic line work introduces warmth and individuality, while the minimal colour palette keeps the focus on concept and impact. Overall, Zebraphant embodies the idea of change through visual metaphor - encouraging viewers to rethink the ordinary and embrace disruptive thinking.
