Exposure

Project Overview

This poster was created for the BA Fine Art 1st Year Exhibition at Cambridge School of Art, part of Anglia Ruskin University. The project began not as a graphic design piece, but as a physical artwork developed during my course.

The original work involved hands-on material experimentation - gathering wood, constructing moulds, and casting forms in resin. The process focused on texture, layering, and surface interaction. After the resin pieces were completed, I photographed them and began digitally editing the images in Photoshop. This experimentation eventually sparked the idea of transforming the material artwork into a graphic exhibition poster..

Final Result

The final design merges fine art practice with graphic communication. The photographed resin textures were manipulated and layered digitally to create a bold, abstract vertical composition. The vibrant pinks and teals contrast strongly, allowing the large, stacked typography of “EXPOSURE” to stand out clearly against the textured background.

I chose to structure the layout vertically to echo the physicality and form of the original resin piece, preserving its presence while adapting it for a poster format. The bold, sans-serif typography creates a clean and contemporary contrast against the organic, tactile background. This balance reflects both sides of the project: experimental fine art and structured graphic design.

By repurposing my own artwork into a functional design outcome, I was able to bridge disciplines - transforming a material-led studio process into a cohesive visual identity for the exhibition. The result communicates creativity, experimentation, and confidence, aligning with the spirit of a first-year fine art showcase while maintaining clarity and strong visual impact.
